Queensland’s Best Hidden Holiday Spots

If you prefer to avoid the typical tourist traps when on holidays, these hidden gems in the Queensland countryside are for you. The perfect place to bring the family or sneak away with the hubby for some alone time, you’ll find something for everyone amongst the rolling hills of the Queensland countryside. Here are a few of our favourite places to get away from it all:

Cottonvale
This beautiful spot in the Queensland hinterland is the perfect place to get back to nature. Explore the surrounding countryside on one of the many nature-walks or go at a faster pace and explore by mountain bike! Take a cruise along the Granite Belt Drive and see wineries, orchards and Stanthorpe’s famous Big Apple. If you’re game, stop at The Summit, one of the coldest places in Queensland. If you’re feeling a bit peckish and want to enjoy some paddock to plate cuisine, Homage features the very best produce from the surrounding area.

Clear Mountain
Just north of Brisbane, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in another world when you arrive in Clear Mountain. Although you’ll be able to spot Brisbane city and all the way to Moreton Bay in the distance, you’ll feel as if you have the whole mountainside to yourself. Spend the day on Lake Samsonvale or take a horseback ride along one of the regions many meandering trails. If you really want to spoil yourself, Stephanie’s Mountain Spa is the perfect place to unwind, either alone or with your partner. We recommend the hydro couples suite – bliss!

Kooralbyn
Head west of the Gold Coast and within an hour and a half you’ll find yourself in the serene Kooralbyn Valley, a place about as opposite from the hustle and bustle of Surfers Paradise as you can get. Send the hubby off for a spot of golf at the Kooralbyn Valley Golf Course while you head to the Oasis Day Spa and forget you ever knew what stress was. Try your hand at clay pigeon shooting, kayaking or horseback riding to really feel like you’re becoming one with the land.

Maryvale
Breathe in that crisp, mountain air as you leave the city behind. Drop off your bags and head straight to the World Heritage Listed Main Range National Park where you can walk through dense rainforests and sheer cliff faces. After all that excitement, you can’t come to Maryvale without booking into Spa Anise, which is the perfect place to work out those sore muscles after a day spent walking the nearby trails. Stop off for a bevvy at the historic Maryvale pub and your weekend is complete.
