How to Make the Most of Your Stay at Wyndham Lombok

Your stay is booked, your bag is packed – you’re on your way to an epic family holiday at the Wyndham Sundancer Resort in Lombok! Whether you’re a family of sunbathers, surfers, scuba divers or scalers (of mountains, that is), there’s no shortage of ways to spend your days at the Wyndham. Located in Sekotong in the south-west of the island, the Wyndham Sundancer is the perfect place to base yourself for the family holiday of a lifetime. Here’s just a few tips on how to spend your days!

Scuba the Secret Gilis
No stay at the Wyndham is complete without an underwater exploration of the Southern Gilis (also known as the Secret Gilis), a collection of thirteen islands that are home to the best coral reefs in Indonesia. There’s diving for everyone, from the newbies to the more experienced, and the reefs are pristine and untouched. If you’re after a dive that works for all levels, check out the dive sites west of Sekotong between Gili Gede and Gili Layar.

Alternatively stand up paddle boarding is a great way to explore the islands.

People Watching
Sekotong is one of Indonesia’s more untouched and traditional areas so you’ll regularly spot local fishermen bringing in the days catch or even panning for gold in the hills overlooking the sea! If you’re up for a little relaxation and doing next to nothing, watching these examples of daily life for the locals is a great way to spend a day.

Surf Desert Point
If you’re a surfer, you can stop reading right now. If not, you should know that Desert Point is one of the best surf spots in the world. If you’re a novice, you can still sit beachside and watch the barrels roll in while the experienced surfers put on a show challenging themselves!

Visit a Traditional Village
For a glimpse into the traditional way of life for those indigenous to Lombok, visit a Sasak village. They are still home to locals who have built their traditional huts in the same way since the 17th Century – with floors made of soil and buffalo dung to keep mosquitos away! There are two main Sasak villages, Sade and Rambitan. Sade is still home to Sasak people who live a traditional lifestyle.

Go Chasing Waterfalls
The Benang Kelambu Waterfall is our favourite and falls through the trees from heights of 20 metres, making it unlike any other waterfall you’ve seen before. There are plenty of spots to enjoy a fresh water swim too, so make sure you bring your togs.

Hike Mt Rinjani
Mt Rinjani an active volcano and the second highest peak in Indonesia. While not for the novice hiker, if you’re a regular summit-chaser and the conditions are right, you can take a three day trek to the rim of the volcano and be rewarded with amazing views. Currently, the volcano trek is closed to visitors but be sure to check back regularly if scaling a volcano is on your bucket list!
